Day 669 - Milton's Satan, Darth Vader, Dracula, etc.

One of Melissa's coworkers got Ruth a board book about Chanukah for the holidays, and she really likes us to read it to her (she's really into the Passover book our friend Joe got her too... weird kid). Anyway, as a result, I was treated to this exchange this morning as I came downstairs:

Melissa (reading): Suddenly, wicked King Antiochus of Syria sent soldiers to enslave the Jews and turn their Temple into a place of idols, impure animals, and sin.
Ruth: I LIKE SIN TOO!

Clearly, we are doing something wrong.

Day 662: We are allowed out of our confinement for work detail.
Day 663 (not pictured): We have a convocation with several other inmates. Charlotte is quarantined, and so we do not have any further "I PUSH" incidents.

A Good Story

Yesterday, we saw a hawk in a tree, eating some smaller bird (messily).

From 21st Century Digital Kid

Tonight, on the way to the store (in preparation for SNOWPOCALYPSE III: REVENGE OF THE NINJA), Ruth and I had the following conversation.

RUTH: I see hawk!
ME: Oh, no I don't see the hawk right now.
RUTH: I see hawk. Mommy see hawk.
ME: Oh, yes. We saw a hawk yesterday.
RUTH: Hawk funny.
ME: The hawk was funny? What was he doing that was funny?
RUTH: Drop feathers.
ME: Yeah, he was dropping feathers all over. Why was he dropping feathers?
RUTH: Eat a snack!
ME: Yeah, he was eating a snack. What was he eating?
RUTH: Food! (I walked into that one)
ME: Yes, he was eating food. But what kind of food?
RUTH: ... (thinks) ... ... ... ... ... ... EAT PASTA!

Day 618 - Christmas Day

This play kitchen is built of random hardware, cardboard, contact paper, and hours and hours of my, Melissa's, and my parents' lives that we will never get back. Ruth does really like it, though - she will often come in and play with it while I'm making dinner and say, "I cooking!"

Day 619 - SNOWPOCALYPSE

At least, that's what we thought of this snowfall until today's.

I just thought these were cute photos of Ruth being excited about the snow.

Day 606 - Christmas

From 21st Century Digital Kid

Ruth helped pick out the tree, along with my folks. We all took a trip out to an organic tree farm (nice idea, and not that much more expensive), and she wandered around with me and my dad to pick out a tree, then my mom gave her hot chocolate.

Ruth likes to walk a mile in our shoes.

Day 606 - I Feed Baby

From 21st Century Digital Kid

Man, she LOVES this crib (it used to belong to my Aunt Connie as a child, and my Uncle Dan refurbished it for Ruth). She will put her dolls to sleep in it, then say, "move baby!" shove them out, and have me put a towel over her and say "night night Ruth."

The cup was actually an ornament from the Christmas tree.

Day 604 - Cupcakes

This year, we decided to get a membership to the Aquarium, since Ruth likes it so much. My parents also got a seniors membership, so they can go with her whenever. She had a blast going with me and them, and checking out the jellyfish exhibit. Though, for reasons we can't figure out, she's convinced that they are cupcakes.

This year, I (I, Daniel, will take the blame for this) suggested to Ruth that she could go as Elmo for Halloween.

Can't you tell?

I will take responsibility for answering her later when she sees this picture and asks, "Daddy, were we very poor?"

It's very important to Ruth that the in-flight attendants leave the can. She would also like milk and juice, please.

Day 540 - Cute!

From 21st Century Digital Kid

My Dad got Ruth this super-cute outfit. Turns out he has taste! Also, she loves it, and will request it specifically often when I ask her what she wants to wear.

(Lauren, don't worry - I plan to spend a big part of the snow day catching up on cute pictures!)

Belated Update

We've been awfully busy around here with Melissa's new job, Daniel's travel and whatnot. New pictures will be up soon but while you're waiting, some news on Ruth:

We found out she can recite her numbers at Chanukah. As Daniel lit the 5th candle, I counted "one, two, three..." after I said "five," she finished "six, ev-en, eight, nine, ten!" We don't think she knows she's counting, really, but just saying the words is great.

Ruth knows all her colors (red, orange, yellow, blue, green, pink, purple, brown, black, white) and points them out regularly when we get dressed.

She knows some of her shapes -- heart, star, diamond are consistent but she mixes up square and rectangle and circle and oval. But hey, she's not even two.

Ruth continues to be a very busy, very verbal kid. She wants us to read to her all.the.time; requests drawings of moons, stars, trucks, and more; says she is "going to work" and gets her Wonder Woman lunchbox; loses her patience and has temper tantrums (see: almost two); asks for hugs frequently; loves her Daniel's parents something fierce; is generally pretty awesome.
